Why is the world more keen and interested to invest and collaborate with India now? Because India has abundant skilled manpower! But the question that still pops up is; why do I need to go abroad? Being aware of the corporate industry and the competition in the market, the education system in India is kind of outdated for it. By the time Indians pass high school, they are clueless of their potential. Most of them do not know what their aptitude is; what their specialization is. And it is necessary to know what you are good at. The cost of studying at the most prestigious college in India is, sometimes, more than the cost of studying in a college that is among the top 200 of the world. And why are Indians not taking up the opportunity in spite of being aware of their potential? Most of the people believe that it is necessary to have somebody already living in some country abroad in order to be able to go there and study. If you have a look at Albert Einstein’s ta...
Having a business degree doesn’t seem to help much when landing a job, but a relevant internship does. That’s according to a new study led by researchers at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, and published in January in the journal Labor Economics. The researchers sent about 9,400 fictitious resumes to business-related positions in finance, insurance, management, marketing and sales. The “applicants” had graduated four years before applying for the job and each had a randomly selected major, including accounting, biology, English, economics and finance. A quarter of the fictitious applicants held three-month summer internships five years earlier in relevant positions, such as working as a financial analyst or on a marketing team. The research team found no evidence that finance, marketing or management degrees improved job prospects for any of the applicants. However, working in relevant internships—as far back as five years earlier—boosted employment prospects significantly, incr...
If you've ever looked for a job and saw requirements for "minimum two years experience" for a recent graduate position, you wonder, like all of us do, "Well, if it's a job for someone who just graduated from university, how could they possibly already have two years of experience?" One of my best friends from college is the slightly maddening reason for those kinds of job descriptions. She graduated with three years of work experience and a thick portfolio in her field, and went on land to a prestigious position in a top advertising firm that normally doesn't even hire recent grads. How did she manage that, not to mention while graduating on time with a flawless GPA? There are others who make the most of the opportunity to demonstrate their potential in a field where they have no prior experience I had another friend who was working in a neuropsychology lab in New York but wanted to transition into the start-up scene. Two years later, she is the Relation...
